Discover our cultural heritage

It would be tough to find a weekend any time of the year when there’s not something going on along the Lake Country Scenic Byway. Every season brings its own entertainment – indoors and in the great outdoors.

When winter arrives, enjoy organized snowmobile trail rides, cross-country skiing get togethers, ice fishing contests and an old-fashioned sleigh festival.

In the spring, grab your binoculars and participate in the Detroit Lakes Birding Festival. The walleye-northern fishing opener always attracts avid anglers.

Summertime is high season for events all week long from pig races to professional bull riding and powwows to parades. Every community along the byway puts together at least one festival to celebrate summer.

Fall festivals, organized tours and bike rides, pumpkin parties, bonfires and hayrides give everyone an excuse to breathe the fresh fall air and scan the changing landscape.

The Lake Country Scenic Byway hosted the Jefferson Highway Association International Conference May 30-31, 2014 in Park Rapids. The conference included interesting speakers and a coach bus tour with stops including Itasca State Park.
